In a car service, the markup on spare parts is one of the main levers of margin, but it is often considered “by eye” or confused with margin. A markup of 35% on the purchase gives a margin of about 26% of the sales price - the difference is noticeable when half of the amount in the receipt is details.
The calculator on this page converts purchase price and markup percentage to retail, profit per unit and margin. You can set the number of items in an order - convenient for a standard set (filters, pads, consumables).
The guideline for a regional service station is a 25–45% markup for popular items, higher for rare and urgent parts. The service usually achieves below 20% margin on spare parts only due to the volume of work - check the overall economy in the profit calculator.
When purchasing prices and balances live in the CRM, the markup is applied to the actual price and not to the average numbers from the calculator. The warehouse module on the Pro tariff records receipts and write-offs according to the work order - there are fewer discrepancies between the cash register and purchases.

Frequently asked questions
- How is markup different from margin?
- The markup is calculated based on the purchase: +40% to 1000 ₽ = 1400 ₽. Margin is the share of profit in the selling price: 400 ₽ out of 1400 ₽ ≈ 28.6%. The calculator shows both indicators.
- What is the markup they charge at the service station?
- For popular spare parts it’s often 25–45%, for rare and urgent items it’s higher. The result depends on competition and the share of parts in the average bill.
- Does the calculator take into account the customer discount?
- No: calculated for full retail price. Establish a discount by manually reducing the markup or purchase price.
- Can it be linked to accounting in CRM?
- Yes: on Pro, the warehouse stores purchase prices and write-offs for work orders - the actual margin on parts is visible in the reports, and not just in the calculator.
